KVSCL 2009

December 4, 2008

Here is a new copy of the league registration form. There are several changes. Check should be made payable to WVSCA. Registration forms and checks should be mailed to:

Craig Timmons
811 Hughes Dr.
St. Albans, WV 25177

On the memo line of the check include the school and team name(s).

A school can have up to 5 players on a team. The top three scores will count towards the team totals. The cost is $30 for a three player team and $10 for each additional player up to 5 players. If a school has 6 players, then they should arrange two 3-players teams. I hope this helps with the having an odd man out on school teams.

Sorry for the confusion and I look forward to seeing you in January.

Craig

The full announcement for 2009 KVSCL chess league can be downloaded here. Scott Hamilton has agreed to act as the Registrar again this year. Thanks Scott!!

There are several announcements in the full document. Just to highlight some of them:

First, November 15th Piedmont Elementary will host a ratings improvement tournament. We will have three sections. A section for K-5, 6-12 and an unrated section. The unrated section will allow new players to play in a tournament and not be a member of the USCF. You will not get ratings for this section. This section is intended to allow new players a chance to see if they like playing in a tournament prior to participating in the chess league and spending the money on the USCF memberships. The cost is $1 and this is just to cover the USCF ratings fees where applicable. The tournament flyer can be downloaded here.

The league will start Saturday January 10 and continue Jan 24, Feb 21, and Feb 28. February 28th is the individual championship. The cost is $30 for a team of three and $40 for a team of four. The details are in the letter above. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

If you do not have enough players to field a team, please let me know. It is possible there are several others in the same position and we maybe able to make a team. I would like to let you know the league is not restricted to Kanawha Valley players. We have had players from Huntington, Ripley and on occasion, Kentucky. Please pass this on to appropriate people in your schools, etc.

I look for to the chess season beginning.

Thanks for your continued support.
