Glenn L. Haynes, 81, of Parkersburg died Monday, August 9, 2004 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Lane A. and Gladys C. Bane Haynes. He was a 1942 graduate of Parkersburg High School, received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his M.A. from Vanderbilt University. He worked for the State of West Virginia for about 40 years, the last 25 of which he spent working for the Division of Rehabilitation Services at Colin Anderson Center.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as a Naval Gunner on merchant ships. He was an avid bird watcher, a member of the local chess club, member of the Wood County Historical Society, an Eagle Scout and worked with a local Scout Group.

Glenn had been the leader of the Parkersburg Chess Club for the past several years. I (Ben Good) played Glenn once, in the 1st Eastern Electric Open in 2001. I managed to win the game, but Glenn had me on the ropes very early on.
